Another 5K Under My Belt

30 Oct

When I had to have reconstructive surgery on my foot after a car accident, my podiatrist told me I could never run again. Well, today, I finished my second ever 5K and beat my previous time. In my first race, I completed it in 40:06, and today I finished in 39:27. I am really proud of myself! My folks came to cheer me on and spoke with the announcer while I was running. When I crossed the finish line, he announced “Here comes Noel. Her doctor told her she’d never run again.” The crowd cheered, and it was an amazing moment. I even cried!

It was a hard race for some reason today. I felt mentally and physically drained for the last mile, which disappointed me. I’ve run as far as 6.22 miles, so I was mad that I hit The Wall. I was sick the first part of this week and all of last weekend, so that may have had something to do with it. Or maybe it was an off day. Either way, at least I finished the race and beat my own time. I really am super happy about that.

Don’t let an injury or obstacle get you down. Don’t let it stop you from pursuing your dream. I defied my doctor by becoming a runner when I was told I never would. You can too. Nothing is too big to overcome. Be safe and careful with it to make sure you don’t hurt yourself, but if you believe in yourself and you work hard, you can overcome ANYTHING.

I am about to cross the finish line at my second 5K
